American Protege International Music Competitions at Carnegie Hall

International Vocal Competition 2023

The American Protégé International Vocal Competition is designed for singers who would like to challenge themselves in a very competitive environment. The Competition is open to solo vocalists and vocal groups of all ages, nationalities and countries.

Participants are required to submit video recording materials for the audition.

A panel of qualified judges will evaluate audition materials. All judges are independent, their students are not allowed to apply this season.

A record number of the talented singers from 18 countries applied for this year’s Competition: different U.S. states, Canada, China, Curacao, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Latvia, Malaysia, Republic of Georgia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and United Atab Emirates.

Eligibility


 

We invite school students and adults to participate in the Competition. There is no age limit for the adult participants.

Multiple winners will be chosen in each of the following age groups:

Awards


 

Since the situation with COVID-19 Global Health Crisis is still uncertain, winners will be offered to perform at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in March – June 2024 on the dates to be announced, or to receive a Winner’s Package by mail.

$300 Scholarship, Judges’ Favorite Award Trophy, Judges’ Distinction Award Trophy and other Special Awards may be granted based on the judges’ recommendations.

International Vocal Competition 2023 Results:

Judges’ Distinction (Plaque Trophy) Award Winners

Ryan Wang, from Short Hills, New Jersey. He started learning to sing at age seven. He won first place in the 2023 Music International Grand Prix. He is the 1st Place Winner of American Protégé Vocal Competition and American Protégé Romantic Music, 2nd place in American Protégé International Music Talent Competition in 2022. He is the 1st Place Winner of the 2022 American Classical Young Musician Award of Voice. He is 1st prize in the 2022 Little Mozarts International Competition and the 1st prize in the 2022 and 2021 PRIMA Volta Music Competitions. 1st place in the 2022 IGMC competition. He is a Apex International Music Competition Grand Award winner of 2023. He is the 1st place winner of the 2022 AVIMC. Ryan is multiple winner of NJMTA competitions and auditions. As the lead singer of a Children’s Choir, he performed for five years at the NJSO’s Lunar New Year Concert. He is an acclaimed National Anthem singer.

Evolette Alexandra, a talented 10-year-old singer from Jakarta Indonesia. Ever since she was a little girl, Evolette loved to sing and perform in front of anyone who would listen. Her parents noticed her talent at an early age and encouraged her to pursue her passion for music. Evolette began taking voice lessons and performing in local talent shows and school concerts. Her dedication and hard work paid off when she won a prestigious international vocal competition, a Gold Medal Junior Vocal at the World Championship of Performing Arts 2022, First Prize in Young Artist at the New York Global Music Competition 2022, Second Prize at We Sing Pop Competition 2022 and First Prize at The 10th Hong Kong International Youth Performing Arts Festival 2023 (HKYPAF).

Jade Rojas is very passionate about music. She was part of her high school Jazz Band, Symphonic Band, Percussion, Marching Band, Advanced Women’s Choir, Mixed Choir and Treble Choir, but Jade’s true passion is singing classical music. She has performed in opera productions as chorister with Opera Naples and GulfShore Opera. Last year she played the lead role of Penny in Sarasota Youth Opera production “The secret world of “Og” and Cousin Hebe in Opera Naples youth production “H.M.S Pinafore”. She will play the lead role of Phyllis in the upcoming Opera Naples youth production “Iolanthe”. Jade has attended Interlochen, ArtsBridge and Boston University Tanglewood Institute summer camps. She has participated in various local and international voice competitions where she has placed first and second place. It is Jade’s goal to major in vocal performance and is her dream to travel the world as an ambassador for Opera.

Winners Recital Information


 

1. Each participant will be notified about the Competition results after the Artistic Director releases the Competition placements. Winners of the Competition will perform one piece selected by the judges from the participant’s audition repertoire.

2. To change a performance repertoire, the participant must submit a link to the new piece video recording and a $55 fee not later than two months before the Concert.

3. Only piano accompaniment can be used at the Winners Recital. Only one grand piano will be available at the Weill Recital Hall. No acoustic system will be provided.

4. Participants must bring their own piano accompanist. American Protégé does not provide piano accompanist, but can recommend one (contact the office).

5. Performance time limit for the School Students categories is under 4 minutes; for the Amateur category – under 5 minutes and for the College Students/Professionals category – under 5 minutes.

6. Extra performance time of up to 1 minute can be accepted for the Winners Recital with an additional fee of $100.

7. Photo or video recording during the recital is strictly prohibited per the Carnegie Hall policy. A professional photographer will be taking pictures of the performers.

8. Each Winner will perform at one Recital. Recital date and time will be offered to the Winner, based on the Competition results.

9. Organizational Committee collects short biographies to introduce the performers at the Winners Recitals. American Protégé reserves the rights to edit, reduce and re-format any submitted biographies as it seems appropriate and fit into the Recital Brochure.

10. All participants are responsible for their own expenses (travel, housing accommodations, etc.).

11. During the COVID-19 Health Crisis, U.S. participants, who are unable to or unwilling to travel to NYC for the safety reasons, may request a Competition Winner’s Package with a non-refundable $300 fee. The Package includes online recognition, Winner’s Certificate, Teacher’s Diploma, four Booklets with biographies and photos, and participation Plaque Trophy. International participants may arrange a shipment to the friends or relatives residing in the U.S. We do not mail packages internationally.

12. Detailed Winners Recital Guidelines will be emailed to the participants.
