Judges’ Distinction (Plaque Trophy) Award Winners

Claire Chiow is twelve years old from California. She loves performing arts. She has been to numerous operas, concerts, musicals, and ballets since she was little. Besides piano, she also plays cello and flute. Claire is the winner of many piano competitions such as US New Star, SYMF, MTAC Keyboard Festival, LA Young Pianist, Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music Competition, and Rachmaninoff International Youth Piano Competition. She is a figure skater and also plays hockey for her school team. When she has time, she likes to read, code, or play badminton with her dad. Her favorite subjects in school are Math and French.
Lixuan Wang was born in Beijing China. When she was 5 years old, she had the first experience as a pianist on stage, and won the 2nd prize in Red Star National Piano Competition. In 2013, she won the first prize in Beijing Piano Music Festival, and played in the winners concert. In 2014, she won the first prize in the National Youth Music Talent Competition in China. During the year of the competition, she had masterclasses with Andrzej Jasnski, Klause Baessler, and Wojciech Świtała. In the year of 2017, She won 3 first prizes in major piano competitions in China, including: first prize in Huabiao Cup International Youth Piano Competition, first prize in Internationaler Deutscher Irmler-Klavierwettbewerb, and first prize in the Steinway International Piano Competition Beijing District. In 2018, she competed and won the first prize in HSINGHAI National Piano Competition.

Selina Yu Chen is a freshman at Saratoga High School, California. She has been playing Guzheng (Chinese Harp) for eight years. She passed the Central Conservatory of Music’s performance level with honor and took first place in the 34th Taiwanese and Chinese Athletic Tournament Traditional Music Competition. She has performed in numerous occasions, from California Theatre and San Jose Centre of Performing Arts to senior centers and cultural fairs. In addition, she enjoys teaching Guzheng to her 17 young students. “One day I was told that Guzheng is not an ‘actual instrument’. This makes me realize how much the Chinese culture is neglected. From that day on I dedicate much of my time to spreading my love for Chinese music. I give my best at every single performance to prove that Guzheng is indeed an actual instrument, a stunningly elegant one.”
