American Protege International Music Competitions at Carnegie Hall

International Music Talent Competition Spring 2017

The American Protégé International Music Talent Competition is open to all instrumentalists (piano, winds, strings, brass, traditional, etc.), vocalists and traditional folk and jazz groups of all nationalities and countries. Participants are required to submit video recording materials for the audition. American Protégé is looking for genuinely talented people, who have creativity and stage charisma.

We invite talented performers of any age and genre to participate in the Competition.

All applicants who are signed with the manager or producer must submit via email a General Representation and Release Form signed by the Manager/Producer to be eligible for the Competition.

Judges


 

Three qualified judges evaluate audition materials. All judges are independent, their students are not allowed to apply this season.

Richard Cheung is a violinist from Hong Kong. He started playing violin and piano since he was five years old, and has performed and attended various competitions since then. Recently, he won the First Prize in the 3rd Hong Kong International Music Festival 2016 Music Competition. He has also achieved the Japan Society of Hong Kong Prize and placed first in the 5th Japan-Hong Kong International Music Competition. He participated in many years of Hong Kong Schools Music Festivals, presented by Hong Kong Schools Music and Speech Association. In the 69th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, Richard was rewarded third place in the Age 19 or under category. He was invited to perform at the 2016 Caritas Charity Concert, hosted by Hong Kong’s biggest television network TVB. He receives violin mentoring from Cindy Chen and Connie Lo.

Siren Zige Gao, enthusiastic and passionate vocalist from China, obtained her Bachelor Degree at Central Conservatory of Music, China, Master of Music Degree at University of Bristol and advanced studies at Opera Research Institute, Peking University. Ms. Gao performed at many prestigious venues and events, including performing O Mio Babbino Caro with recording artist Giacomo Puccini for China Central Television Channel, Beethoven 9th Symphony at Beijing Great Hall of The People Tiananmen Square, Tchaikovsky Eugene Oinegin at the Opening Debut National Center for the Performing Arts and Faure’s Requiemat the Opening Debut in China in collaboration with the national youth symphony. She is a principal actress at Rose Thorns with full theatre adaptation and composition aired globally on SINA.COM; and was a principal singer at Concert in China with Piano accompaniment Marco Giovanetti, Director of the Gaetano Donizetti Conservatory of Bergamo, Italy. Ms Gao also gave solo concerts at Victoria Hall of Bristol, UK and at Harbin Concert Hall with Harbin Symphony Orchestra.

Piano Duo/Four Hands: 

Jarom Martineau is 17 years old and has been studying piano for 6 years. For the past three years he has been a student of Dr. Irene Peery-Fox. Previous training was with Brandon Stewart. His First Prizes include the Salt Lake Piano Competition, the Encore Keyboard Competition, and the Utah Valley Symphony Young Artists’ Concerto Competition, which awarded him the opportunity to perform Rachmaninoff Concerto No. 1 with the Utah Valley Symphony. As a Second Prize winner of the 2016 American Protege Competition, Jarom was honoured to perform in Carnegie Hall.

Joshua Jensen, age 16, started studying piano classically at age 11. He lives in Gilbert, Arizona where he enjoys photography, musical theater, choir, and intensive piano with his mentor and teacher, Fei Xu, of the New Century Conservatory in Chandler, AZ. Joshua’s most recent piano accomplishments include the 2017 Phoenix Symphony Guild Concerto Competition First Place Winner, 2016 American Protege Competition, 2016 EVMTA Piano Competition (Gold Medalist), and the 2016 Steinway Avanti Competition (HM). Joshua enjoys being educated at home with his four sisters and two little brothers. Some of Joshua’s favorite composers are Ravel, Rachmaninoff, Bach, Liszt, and Prokofiev. He looks forward to a career in music and is grateful to his teacher and family who continue to support him every step of the way.
