American Protege International Music Competitions at Carnegie Hall

International Music Talent Competition Spring 2011

The American Protégé International Competition of Romantic Music is open to instrumentalists (piano, piano duo, winds, strings, chamber orchestras, voice) of all nationalities and countries. Participants are required to submit video/audio recording materials for the audition.

American Protégé International Competition of Romantic Music 2014 attracted applicants from across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Italy, Bulgaria, Russia, Korea, China, Singapore, Thailand and Australia.

Concerts were held at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall and Merkin Concert Hall at Kaufman Center

Judges


 

Three qualified judges evaluate audition materials. All judges are independent, their students are not allowed to apply this season.

Griffin Stoller, 16, of Belvedere, California, began studying Classical Violin with Yoko Acheson at age two. While Classical music has remained his primary focus, as he matured musically, he added Jazz and Folk/Traditional styles to his violin repertoire. He has won American String Teachers Association Alternative Styles Award in 2005, “Outstanding Soloist” Award at the Stanford Jazz workshop in 2008 and the prestigious Gershwin Award, from the Ira and Lenore Gershwin Trust in 2008. In 2009, he won the US National Title “Best Male Entertainer” for his performance of Vieuxtemps’ “Souvenir d’ Amerique” at the National Old-Time Fiddle Championships in Idaho; this was the first time this prize was awarded for Classical music. Griffin currently studies Classical violin with Deborah Tien Price of the New Century Chamber Orchestra and Jazz violin with two-time Grammy Award winner Evan Price of the Turtle Island Quartet. He also had the honor of studying with Rachel Barton Pine in 2009
