American Protege International Music Competitions at Carnegie Hall

International Concerto Competition 2020

International Concerto Competition is open to all instruments, including strings, piano, voice and winds.

Participants are required to submit video recording materials for the audition.

Eligibility


 

We invite school students and adults to participate in the Competition. There is no age limit for the adult participants.

Multiple winners will be chosen in each of the following age groups:

School Students:Adults (19 and older):
12 and underAmateur without professional degree
13 – 18College students and professional musicians

Awards


 

Winners will perform at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York City in December 2020 and March – June 2021.

Special Awards were granted based on the judges’ recommendations.

Judges


 

International panel of qualified judges will evaluate audition materials. All judges are independent, and their students are not allowed to apply this season. The concert pianist and teacher Ms. Irina Kaufman-Brookes (U.K./Russia) is invited as a Chairwoman of the Concerto Competition 2019. A graduate from the Moscow Gnessin Academy of Music, classes of Prof. E. Lieberman and Prof. L. Naumov, Ms. Kaufman-Brookes won a number of the International Competitions and performed as a solo and chamber ensemble pianist with the Bolshoi Theater, Stanislavskiy and Nemirovich – Danchenko Opera Theatre, and many orchestras across the Europe and USA.

Davit Darbinyan was born in 1995 in Uzbekistan, Tashkent.   He began learning to play clarinet at the age of 12 in Tbilisi No. 2 Central Musical School. His musical talent was manifested very young ages, therefore he participated in many international competitions. He played with Tbilisi Youth Orchestra, Georgian Philharmonic Orchestra and he also performed with Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theatre Orchestra. Davit also had solo concerts and he took master classes with world’s famous musicians. From 2013, he studied in Tbilisi State Conservatory in Professor David Jishkariani’s class. Until today he studies there in Master’s degree program. At the age of 15 Davit was working at Georgian Philharmonic Orchestra, and 16 years old Davit was playing in Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theatre. Nowadays he is principal clarinetist and soloist in Tbilisi Youth Orchestra.

Anahit Stelmashova is 13 years old student of Prof. Nino Katamadze at the Central Musical College named after Evgeny Mikeladze in Tbilisi. Anahit is a scholarship holder of such foundations as the «SOS – Talents» (France) and the «Atken Armenian» (Canada). Anahit is a prize winner of the «Future Stars» International Competition (Italy) and of the Arno Babajanyan International Competition for Junior and Young Pianists (Armenia, 2nd prize). She is also the Ghand prix holder of the «Batumi Music Fest» (Georgia) and a laureate of the «New Names of Armenia» Festival (Armenia). «Silver Nutcracker 2019» of XX International Television Contest for Young Musicians «The Nutcracker» (Russia). Anahit’s hobby is karate.

International Music competitions at Carnegie Hall

Anthony Yang, age 12, is in the 7th grade Horizons Program at Randolph IB Middle School, Charlotte, NC. He has been studying piano with Mrs. Irena Hramenkova since the age of 6. He has won numerous awards in regional and state piano solo and concerto competitions.  He was the 1st place winner in the 2018 American Protégé Piano concerto Competition and he performed a solo at Carnegie Hall. He also won 1st place in the 2019 Steinway piano competition at Junior Division. At the end of 2019, he won III prize in the IV Future Stars International Piano Competition in the category “Young Musicians”. He received the Glenn Alexander Gurley memorial scholarship for winning 2019 piano concerto competition.

Ayla Moreno began playing piano and violin at the age of 3 and currently studies piano with Dr. Svetlana Arakelova. She has been invited to perform at various venues including Japanese Festival, Tucson Folk Festival, Tucson Museum of Art, Tucson Youth Talent Showcase and more. In 2017-2018, Ayla won first places at the Merit Scholarship Competition by TMTA and medals at the James R. Anthony Honors Recital by TSMTA for two years in a row. Also she earned Judge’s Honorable Commendation at the Young Artists Competition by Tucson Symphony Orchestra.  When she was 6, Ayla won first place at the Young Artists Competition and performed Berkovich Piano Concerto with the Civic Orchestra of Tucson.
