American Protege International Music Competitions at Carnegie Hall

International Concerto Competition 2019

International Concerto Competition is open to all instruments, including strings, piano, voice and winds.

Participants are required to submit video recording materials for the audition.

Eligibility


 

We invite school students and adults to participate in the Competition. There is no age limit for the adult participants.

Multiple winners will be chosen in each of the following age groups:

School Students:Adults (19 and older):
12 and underAmateur without professional degree
13 – 18College students and professional musicians

Awards


 

Winners will perform at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Winners Concerts will take place on the following dates:

  • Sunday, May 12, 2019
  • Saturday, May 25, 2019
  • Monday,  May 27, 2019 (Memorial Day)
  • Sunday, June 16, 2019
  • Saturday, June 22, 2019
  • Saturday, June 29, 2019

$300 Scholarship and other Special Awards may be granted based on the judges’ recommendations.

Judges


 

International panel of qualified judges will evaluate audition materials. All judges are independent, and their students are not allowed to apply this season. The concert pianist and teacher Ms. Irina Kaufman-Brookes (U.K./Russia) is invited as a Chairwoman of the Concerto Competition 2019. A graduate from the Moscow Gnessin Academy of Music, classes of Prof. E. Lieberman and Prof. L. Naumov, Ms. Kaufman-Brookes won a number of the International Competitions and performed as a solo and chamber ensemble pianist with the Bolshoi Theater, Stanislavskiy and Nemirovich – Danchenko Opera Theatre, and many orchestras across the Europe and USA.

Piano Competition in Carnegie Hall New York 33

Kate Yunseo Lee is 6 years old. She was born in Fairfax, Virginia in 2012 and is now a kindergarten student at Saint Leo the Great Catholic School. She has been playing the piano and studying music since 2016 at the age of 4, under the direction of Dr. Anna Ouspenskaya. Kate won Honorable Mention in YMIC (Young Musicians Inspiring Change) 2018 Metropolitan Music Festival in Piano solo category.  She has played various solo piano literature & concerto collaborations with accompanists from various composers & different styles. 

Violin Competition in Carnegie Hall New York 32

Ashley Jimin Kim, from Seoul, South Korea, began to learn violin at the age of 6. She was selected for an audition at the age of 11 and sponsored by Kumho Asiana Group to hold a solo concert. Ashley was the winner of the 1st the Korean ilbo, Eumyeon, Korea Herald, and Haneum competitions. She collaborated with San Giorgio Orchestra of Italy, Gyeonggi-Pil Harmonic Orchestra, Cheongju-si-Okestra, and Madrid chamber orchestra of Spain.

Emilee Kitmahawong is a junior at the Bronx High School of Science, where she also serves as the Concertmaster for the school orchestra. She’s been playing the violin since age 4 and is currently furthering her violin studies at the Mannes Pre-College Music Program in New York City. Recently, she won a concerto competition there and has performed with the orchestra as a soloist. Emilee is also active with a Chamber music group that was selected to perform at Lincoln Center for Young Musician’s Concert. Emilee has performed at Carnegie Hall and with orchestras in Vienna, Prague, Tokyo and Bangkok.
