International Concerto Competition 2015

International Concerto Competition 2015 was open to all instruments, including strings, piano, voice and winds. Participants were required to submit video/audio recording materials for the audition.

Participants from across the U.S., Canada, China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore, Russia, Azerbaijan, Mongolia, Bulgaria, Italy and Israel have applied for the Competition.

Eligibility


 

We invite school students and adults to participate in the Competition. There is no age limit for the adult participants.

Multiple winners were chosen in each of the following age groups:

Judges


 

International panel of qualified judges evaluated audition materials. All judges were independent, and their students were not allowed to apply this season.

The concert pianist and teacher Ms. Irina Kaufman-Brookes (U.K./Russia) was invited as a Chairwoman of the Concerto Competition 2015. A graduate from the Moscow Gnessin Academy of Music, classes of Prof. E. Lieberman and Prof. L. Naumov, Ms. Kaufman-Brookes won a number of the International Competitions and performed as a solo and chamber ensemble pianist with the Bolshoi Theater, Stanislavskiy and Nemirovich – Danchenko Opera Theatre, and many orchestras across the Europe and USA.

International Piano Competition in Carnegie Hall New York 33601

Gavin Jared Bala, 15, began playing the piano at age 4. In 2012, he was selected to perform for the President of the Republic of Singapore in the “President’s Young Performers Concert 2012” with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra as a Piano Duo in Saint-Saëns’ “Carnival Of The Animals”. He has won several prizes in many international and local competitions. In July 2014, he attended Malta International Music Masterclasses (with Prof. Stefano Miceli) and Competition in Malta. Gavin Jared won 2nd prize in his category and was invited to play at various Maltese venues. In August 2014, he attended the Paderewski Piano Academy in Bydgoszcz, Poland, performing Chopin’s E minor concerto with the Torun Symphony Orchestra at Koronowo. He also attended Music Fest Perugia 2014 later in August and again performed Chopin’s E minor concerto with the Philharmonic Orchestra of the University of Alicante and gave several solo piano recitals.

International Violin Competition in Carnegie Hall New York 336

Cellist, Cheyoon Lee, 16, was born in Seoul, Korea. She is a high-school Freshman at the Walnut Hill School for the Arts in Natick, MA, where she has performed in master classes for cellist, Andrew Mark and the Boston Trio. Prior to coming to the United States, Ms. Lee was accepted into the Sun-Hwa Arts School in Seoul where she became a scholar student and received First Prize and Superior ratings three years in a row for her practical tests. Ms. Lee was invited to perform in the Youngsan Grace Hall Concert and received, both, Second Prize in the Yewon Competition and Third Prize in the Phone Classic Competition. At the New England Conservatory Preparatory School in Boston, Ms. Lee studies cello with cellist and pedagogue, Allison Eldredge.

10-year old Simon Hagopian-Rogers, a native of New York City, attends the Kaufman Center, Special Music School. A student of Viktor Basis, Simon has played since age four. In 2013, he won the second  prize at the International Violin Competition in Cremona, Italy. In 2015, he won first prize in the Music Competition in New York City and was also awarded Best Performance Grand Prize. He has performed for violinists Joshua Bell, Gideon Kremer and Uto Ughi and attended master classes with Maxim Vengerov at La Foce Music Festival. Besides the violin, he studies piano with Irina Hovhanissyan and composition at Juilliard pre-college with Jared Miller.

International Violin Competition in Carnegie Hall New York 3360

Jinan Woo, 7, from Hong Kong is a year 3 student at the ESF Kennedy School. She was born in South Korea and started playing the violin at the age 3 there. She has been accepted in Junior Music Program at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 2012 after she had moved to Hong Kong when she was 4 years old. Jinan won several international competitions including the first class honors in Youth division at the Osaka International Music Competition, the first place in the category of under age 8 in the Hong Kong Students Open Music Festival and Hong Kong Schools Music Festival and the gold medal in professional category at Hong Kong-Japan International Music Competition. And also she got the distinction mark with all full scores in three pieces for ABRSM grade 5 exam (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, UK) at age 6. She currently appeared as a soloist in numerous concert events including public concerts at Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Gala concert in Thailand Suzuki Music Conference and Gala concert in Korean Suzuki Music School.

Ting Yan Fung, a 16 years old, from Hong Kong, is currently a junior at Interlochen Arts Academy where she is studying as a piano major with Dr. Michael Coonrod. Among her many accomplishments, Ting Yan won first place in the Inter-School International Performance Challenge Open Class (2011), first place in the 62nd, 63rd, and 64th HK Schools piano solo group. Recently, she has won first place in the MTNA state and district rounds for the Senior Piano Duet Competition (2015) and played with the Interlochen Arts Academy as a result of being one of the winners in the Academys Concerto Competition (2015). She also won first place in the MMTA Concerto Competition – Senior Division (2014). Ting Yan has been given and invited to performance opportunities, like in May 2010, she got invited to play with Lang Lang on stage in the “Lang Lang’s Charity Concert for UNICEF”in Hong Kong. She was also invited to play in the opening ceremony of the Michigan Youth Arts Festival (2014) and at the MMTA fall conference (2014).
