International Concerto Competition 2013

International Concerto Competition 2013 was open to all instruments, including strings, piano, voice and winds.

Participants were required to submit video/audio recording materials for the audition.

Judges


 

International panel of qualified judges evaluated audition materials. All judges were independent, and their students were not allowed to apply this season.

The concert pianist and teacher Ms. Irina Kaufman-Brookes (U.K./Russia) was invited as a Chairwoman of the Concerto Competition 2013. A graduate from the Moscow Gnessin Academy of Music, classes of Prof. E. Lieberman and Prof. L. Naumov, Ms. Kaufman-Brookes won a number of the International Competitions and performed as a solo and chamber ensemble pianist with the Bolshoi Theater, Stanislavskiy and Nemirovich – Danchenko Opera Theatre, and many orchestras across the Europe and USA.

International Piano Competition in Carnegie Hall New York 33602

Esther Liao, 16, from Houston, TX, began her piano studies at age four and won her first competition at age six. She was also the youngest participant and prize winner ever to the Houston Symphony League youth concerto competition at age of nine. Esther’s orchestral debut at age 9 with the Houston Symphony were followed by invitations to perform multiple times as the soloist with the Houston Symphony, and her Gold Medal awarded concert in 2010. In June 2012, after she captured the Gold Medal of the 10th Annual Lynn Harrell south regional concerto competition, Esther was invited as soloist to perform with the Dallas Symphony. Esther has appeared as a Houston Young Artist to perform at the Houston Miller Outdoor Theatre, the Stude Concert Hall at Rice University, and the International Festival of the Round Top Institute, TX. She was also invited by Chinese Education Center to present solo recitals at the Gulangyu Music Hall, Steinway Hall (NY) and Fort Bend Music Center in Houston. In 2012, Esther was featured on the National Public Radio program From the Top.

Sohyang Yoo, 24, from New Haven, CT, began to study cello at the age of 8. In 1997, she won the Suk-myung University competition. In 2000, she won the Eumak Chunchu competition and had winner recital at Ho-am Art Hall. Same year, She won Dahan Children music competition. In 2001, Ms. Yoo entered Yewon Arts Middle School and studied with Ji-sook Shin. In 2003, she won Ehwa and Kyunghyang competition and had winner recital at Kumho Art Hall. In 2004, Ms. Yoo entered Seoul Arts High School. In 2006, she got prizes at Baroque competition, Sekye illbo competition, The Music competition, Sung-shin University competition, and Han-kook illbo competition. In 2007, she entered Seoul National University and studied with Chung-shim Baeck. In 2010, Ms. Yoo won The Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra competition and got second prize at Korean Herald Newspaper competition. She had a recital in Seoul national University. In 2012, Ms. Yoo entered Yale School of Music where she studies Master of Music with Aldo Parisot

Brielle Perez, 11, from Oradell, NJ, attends The Palisades School of Music in Fort Lee, NJ, and is a student of Michael Thomopoulos. Brielle’s past awards include a number of first and grand prizes at many competitions, such as Prima Artists Competition, Bravura Philharmonic Orchestra Concerto Competition, The Greater Princeton Steinway Society Scholarship Competition, National League of Performing Arts Young Musicians Showcase, to list just a few.
